When we think about the future of the megacity Tokyo, there are various issues to be solved that are closely interrelated. There might be something common to diverse megacities around the world, but we would like to start with the complexity of Tokyo. It is important to re-understand Tokyo from the bird's eyes view. |

One and a half years have passed since the international workshop "Asian Approach toward Sustainable Urban Regeneration" , and action studies in different Asian cities are steadily in progress. We would like to present what we have done so far, share the issues broadly both inside and outside Japan, and set a table for open discussion and practice regarding "Sustainable Urban Regeneration" |

cSUR re-acknowledges the many urban problems encountered in Latin America. Despite being so far away from Japan, these are common to Asian countries. On the other hand, we re-acknowledge that a considerable variety of new challenges not found in Asia can be seen, due to differences in social formation. Given this, we received an introduction to the problems faced by their cities and their characteristic challenges by specialists from various Latin American countries. |

Early September 2007. Our collaborating partners in action studies for the “creation of scholarship on the sustainable regeneration of urban spaces” came together from all over the world and met in one building. The results of collaborative research with the University of Tokyo and distinctive engagements in various countries over the past three years were presented. Ideas were exchanged across the boundaries of fields, and the enthusiasm for obtaining new ideas was truly stimulating. |
